Welcome to America: Obey Our Laws

“As many as 100 cities across the country served as hosts Monday to rallies and protests against any get-tough measures federal lawmakers are considering to crack down on illegal immigration.

Protests were held in cities such as Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Phoenix, and Texas cities such as Houston, Austin and El Paso. In North Carolina and Dallas, immigrant groups called for an economic boycott to show their financial impact. Rally participants sang "We Shall Overcome" in Spanish at the Mississippi Capitol in Jackson.” (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,191142,00.html).

Here in Phoenix, 100,000 marched through the downtown area presenting their demands to the nation: (1) citizenship for those illegally here, and (2) have an open border.

I wonder if illegal immigrants know that the First Amendment doesn’t apply to them. They do not have the right to assemble because they cannot lawfully assemble. What’s more – we’re wasting American tax dollars so they can protest.

The solution to this problem is simple: illegals should willfully get out. Unfortunately, we all know that will never happen. We transport illegals back across the border and they simply come back. What we need to do FIRST is protect our borders, SECOND force businesses to hire legal residents, and THEN we can discuss possible immigration reforms.

Granting a mass amnesty which rewards illegal behavior is definitely not the solution. That will only result in more illegal immigration!

“We’re not criminals,” they say. Yes, you are. You say you want to be part of this great nation yet you demonstrate your willingness to break our laws. What have you done to deserve citizenship? Your track record speaks against you. We don’t want lawbreakers here. Go home. We only want those who obey our laws and use the legal means of acquiring legal status.

“But, but, it’s not fair! It’s too difficult to become a U.S. citizen!” Boohoo. The laws are in place for a reason. Illegals are not part of the political process. It doesn’t matter what they want. What matters is what the American people want.

If you’re an American citizen and you don’t like it, change the law. If you’re an illegal and you don’t like it, go home.

The only arguments we hear from the liberal Left are based on emotion. They depend on tugging the heart strings. They lack logic, and more importantly, the law. Laws are to be obeyed. End of story. The end.

I pray God would grant repentance to the millions of illegals so they would willingly obey our laws and go home.

Finally, I pray that God would grant wisdom to our nation’s leaders so they might protect our laws.

Offended by Illegals,
Casey

I like the point that you made about how we should force businesses to hire legal residents.

What kind of penalty do you think the government should put on business owners if they fail to do that?

Also, if that step was put into action, I think that would slow down illegal immigration, but not a ton. Because we would also have to enforce restrictions on the illegal immigrants who have their own businesses (lawn care, maid services, framing companies, and many more.

If this were to work, we would have to put restrictions on the consumers hiring people for cash; how could that work?

To stop illegal immigrants we have to raise the living standards in countries where the illegals are coming from, or lower the living standards of our country to match theirs. Seems like the latter option is the default one - unfortunately.

Great blog again Case.

You and I are in 100% agreement on this one.

Brent,

I think a 10,000/head fine to any employer who uses illegal immigrants for labor is appropriate. It would make it cheaper to just hire legals and let them do the work, even if their wages were higher. I doubt there are too many smaller employers that would be willing to face a 10K fine per illegal that they employ.

As for the cash issue, no system is perfect except a theocracy run by our God almighty, but since God doesn't do that anymore, we have our best guess. There will always be people break the law. But if the immigrants stop coming illegally, or least slow down, the companies wont be able to hire them for cash, because they will be part of the system and will want better than to be treated as slaves.

Thanks for your thoughts Brent,

What kind of penalty do I think the government should put on businesses who hire illegals? Hmm, excellent question. For starters, we need a fine. Maybe $10,000 for the first offense, then some jail time for the second offense.

In order to implement this, we would have to have some form of state/federal documentation for business licenses (I prefer state). We’d also need a better state/federal identification card that isn’t easily forgeable. With both of these measures in place, businesses would have to be legal and could only hire legal residents. Finally, we must restrict public services (education, hospitals, etc) to legal residents. If all of these measures are put in place this will force illegals to willingly go home – there would be no reason to stay.

On a completely separate issue, we must secure out borders. I believe in building a real fence along the entire US-Mexican border. I don’t simply want a “virtual fence” with sensors. I want the real deal. As Hugh Hewitt cleverly pointed out: “The White House doesn’t have a virtual fence. They have a real fence. Real fences really keep people out!”

Lastly, the Mexican government must help us on this issue. They can’t hand out maps of how to illegally cross the border. They need to punish their own citizens for breaking the law.

(I guess I don’t know which point is really last…)

Lastly (for real?), we should by no means reward criminal behavior by handing out citizenships, even if it means putting them through a 6 year program. This is called mass amnesty. It is also cutting in line of the millions of those patiently going through the legal process to become a part of this nation.

If, and only if, all of this is done, then we can talk about immigration reform.

Well said Case, by implementing a state employer id card, this would make it harder for illegals to run their own businesses. To aid in implementing this process, we could make it mandatory to pay workers with a check made payable only to the company name. Thus, it would be impossible to cash or deposit the check unless the business was opened legitamately (with the correct documentation) at their local Bank of America . . . or a lesser bank like Smells Fargo or etc. (He smiles uncontrollably knowing Casey still banks with Smells!)

I don't know about the fence though, wouldn't that take a lot of time and money?

Brent,

Excellent ideas.

As far as a fence goes ... we need one. We need a fence to help protect our borders. We need drastic increases in border patrol. The cost doesn't matter much to me. If we took all the money Congress is planning to increase in education spending this next term, we'd have more than enough to build ourself a wall.

More than keeping illegals out, I want to keep terrorists out. But both are a nuisance on our society. They are a burden that we shouldn't have to bear, so let's keep them out using any means necessary =)
